| WE SALUTE OUR TOTY North Habersham Middle School Junior Honors teacher, Willene Agnew has been selected as the Advocates for Gifted and Talented Learners of Habersham (AGTLH) Gifted Program Teacher of the Year for 2007-2008. As an affiliated chapter of Georgia Association for Gifted Children, AGTLH is provided with the opportunity to nominate a Habersham County gifted educator to be the nominee for the GAGC Gifted Program Teacher of the Year. |

| 1. Advocated for a Gifted Coordinator - Martha Cantrell assumed this part-time position for the 2007-08 school year; 2. AGTLH nominated a GAGC Gifted Teacher of the Year from Habersham County; 3. AGTLH held four local chapter meetings featuring high level guest speakers and entertainers; 4. AGTLH rolled out its local advocacy webpage in January 2008; 5. AGTLH published three newsletters in 2007-08; 6. Two executive board members, along with AGTLH advisor, Senator John Foster participated in a panel discussion for a gifted endorsement teacher training at Pioneer RESA in June of 2007; 7. AGTLH serves as a constant point of contact and resource for parents seeking educational support for gifted students; 8. A great deal of time was spent advocating for Renzulli Learning, which was launched to all K-8 students in Habersham County; 9. AGTLH continues to work closely with the Habersham County BOE to raise awareness for the special needs of gifted students and to raise the education bar for all students in the system; and 10. In early 2008, AGTLH was invited to address the BOE in an advisory capacity regarding current opportunities in gifted education. BONUS MILESTONE: Met with Lt. | GAGC CHAPTER OF THE YEAR On Tuesday, March 18 at the Georgia Association for Gifted Children (GAGC) 13th Annual Convention held in Atlanta AGTLH was recognized by GAGC as Georgia's "Chapter of the Year." Tammy Caudell, President and Lane Gresham, Secretary received the award from GAGC Executive Board President, Vicki Krugman, Athens. According to the GAGC website, "The award is presented each year to the local chapter which has made a significant difference to gifted education in their district to bring about change that results in improvement in gifted services in that specific district." The executive board of AGTLH is proud to bring this coveted award back to Habersham County. This achievement marks a milestone in gifted advocacy for our county. AGTLH sends a million thanks to our members who continue to support the important work to "shine a bright light on Habersham County's gifted students thus raising the education bar for all. |
